What's The Time Mr Wolf?
In Room 16 over the last 2 weeks we have been learning to tell the time. At the start we thought you could only tell time on a clock. Now we know that time passes in lots of different ways. eg: the days of the week, and the months of the year are ways we can tell time is passing. Here are two songs that we have learnt this week to help us remember the 7 days of the week and the 12 months of the year.
Enjoy.

Endangered Animals - What can we do?
Today we watched a video on youtube of endangered animals. The video showed us pictures of some animals that are endangered and it also showed us reasons why animals are dying and becoming endangered.
These are some of the reasons shown in the video:
- people are hunting animals for fun.
- people hunt animals for food.
- people cut down the trees and the animals have no place to live.
- people hunt animals like whales to make things like lipsticks.
- people are nuking places which kills animals and their homes.
- bad weather is killing animals.
- animals are killing other animals
From this video we decided the major reason animals are becoming endangered are PEOPLE!!
So, what can we, as individuals and a class, do about it?

Oil Spill - Can you help us with our questions?
Miss Cooper found this picture of a bird on the internet. We had a talk as a class and this is what we know from the picture and our own knowledge so far:
- the bird is covered in oil (Evan)
- the bird has oil on it because there is oil in the water (Madeline)
- there is a lot of oil on the bird (Emily M)
- the bird might die because it's covered in oil, so we need to help it (Ayden)
- to help it, we need to get the oil off the bird (Phoenix)
- someone needs to scrub the bird so it gets nice and clean (Emily M)

As you can see, we know, or have worked out, quite a lot of things from this picture. But, we have some questions we would like your help in answering.
- Who put the oil in the water? (Kayal)
- Are other animals going to be sick as well? (Madeline)
- How did the oil get into the water? (Madeline and Bryley)
- When did the oil get on the duck and into the water? (Emily M)

Inquiry! Can you help us?
We are learning about animals during Inquiry. We know that extinct animals are animals that are dead and they will not come back. Zara says that dinosaurs are extinct. We have been talking about endangered animals. Madelines says that endangered animals are animals that are nearly extinct and Emily tells us that we need to look after them so they don't become extinct.
So, we know that some examples of endangered animals are:
Tigers (Tsarine)
Elephants (Phoneix)
Lions (Ayush)
Some types of Bears (Kayleb)
Some types of Birds (Bryley)
We need your help. Can you tell us, what other animals are endangered?
Thanks,
Room 16!

Our Zoo Stories
Here are some of the stories we wrote about Wellington Zoo!
Enjoy!!
Yesterday the Rainbow Patch kids went to Wellington Zoo. We got to the zoo on a bus. Our bags were put underneath the bus. When we got there the weather was really cold and we went to the Elephant house to have lunch. In the Elephant House were some bats. We looked around the zoo. My favourite animal was the baboons. They were really funny because they did poos. Before we got back on the bus my group got to play. The people in my group were me, Tsarine, Phoenix, Kayleb, Tipene and Ayush. My parent helper was my mum and Miss Cooper. I had so much fun at the zoo.
By Madeline
Yesterday the Rainbow Patch went to the zoo. We got there on two buses. We were on the second bus and Room 21 was on the first bus. Their bus was meant to be there before us but we were there before them because their bus broke down. I saw a giraffe and a baboon at the zoo. My favourite animal was a chimpanzee and a tiger. My least favourite animal was the cheeter because they freak me out. I had a fantastic time going to the zoo.
By Emily M
Yesterday we went to Wellington Zoo. We went on two buses. When we got there was saw sun bears and a pelican. Pelicans have long beaks. These were the people in my group: Kayal, Ashely, Ethan, Harmony and me. The leader of the group was Willie. My favourite animal was the sun bears but I didn't like the tigers because it sounded like it was hungry. On the way back to school I fell asleep on the bus.
By Tyson
Yesterday the Rainbow Patch went to Wellington Zoo. We went there on two different buses. I saw a baboon and a chimpanzee but my favourite animal was the giraffe because it had a long neck.
By Ashley

ANZAC DAY
Welcome Back to Term 2!
We hope you all had a great holiday!
This week has been busy for Room 16.
This week we made poppies. We made them by ripping coloured paper and collaging it onto a poppy shape. We made poppies because it is ANZAC Day on Sunday. ANZAC Day is the day where we remember those we lost in the war. It is a special day for everyone in New Zealand and Australia.
Have a great weekend - and remember those we lost during the war on Sunday.

On Tuesday we went to a show called "The Power of One".
The show was all about bullying.
We learnt that there are 2 types of bullying:

Writing about the Weather.
The children in Room 16 have created stories about the weather. Last week the weather wasn't very nice, so we wrote stories about HOW THE WEATHER MAKES US FEEL. We are working hard to use descriptive words in our stories. These are stories we wrote INDEPENDENTLY! Miss Cooper gave us the story starter "Today the weather is...." Then we had to write all by ourselves.
Today the weather is wet. It is pouring. I will have heaps of fun. I am going to play with my brother. The weather makes me feel happy.
By Tyson
Today the weather is wet. It makes me sad because I can't play outside with my friends.
